The day that hunger is eradicated
from the earth there will be the greatest spiritual explosion the world
has ever known. Humanity cannot imagine the joy that will burst into the
world. Hunger knows no friend, but its feeder. --Aristophanes, The Wasps If a free society cannot help the
many who are poor, it cannot save the few Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime. -- Aristotle, Politics Power always thinks it has a great
soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak; and that it
is doing God's service, when it is violating all His laws. A decent provision for the poor is the true test of civilization. --Samuel Johnston, 1770 A hungry man is not a free man. -- Adalai Stevenson, Speech, 1952 No one can worship God or love his
neighbor on an empty stomach. The greatest of all evils, and the
worst of all crime is poverty. The more humanity owes the poor man
the more that society denies him. Every door is shut against him, even
when he has a right to have it opened: and if he ever obtains justice
it is with much more difficulty than others receive favors. Poverty demoralizes. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Wealth There is something about poverty that
smells like death. Dead dreams dropping off the heart like leaves in a
dry season and rotting around the feet. There are only two families in the world my grandmother used to say, the Haves and the Havenots. -- Cervantes, Don Quixote "The way people think about hunger
is the greatest obstacle to ending it." |
